ken_inksterWith great sadness, the SICM announced the passing late Sunday, December 6th, 2015, after a brief illness, of friend, mentor and Director Emeritus, Dr. Kenneth Inkster.

Kenneth was not simply the longest-serving Director and chief architect of the Institute. Indeed, he virtually WAS the Institute, presenting it almost single-handedly prior to the formation of the Board in 2001, and he continued to support it selflessly and faithfully throughout its almost half-century of history.

The Institute will deeply miss Dr. Inkster, as will many other communities blessed by his quiet, warm and yet firm leadership and faithful service – to name but a few: Banting Secondary School, St. John’s United Church and their town of Alliston, Ontario; Emmanuel College and Victoria University (University of Toronto), the United Church of Canada, and both the local and international levels of the Royal Canadian College of Organists and the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.

Donations made in Kenneth’s memory to the Summer Institute of Church Music will be directed towards the Osborne Organ Competition and the Kenneth W. Inkster Bursary Fund.
