Sharing the Vision - Spreading the Song

If you share SICM’s objectives, attending some or all of the annual Institute week is perhaps the greatest contribution you can make: to yourself, your congregation, to SICM and your fellow church musicians.

You and your community may also wish to become partners with SICM in presenting a unique fund-raising opportunity for your church’s ministries: Holy SONG! - a light-hearted touring program dedicated to your congregation’s singing, now accepting bookings for 2008-2009. Proceeds which accrue to SICM are directed at the Osborne Organ Competition.

But it’s not the only possible contribution: beyond attending SICM, simply sharing its objectives and contributing financially to its ongoing work is another vital part which many choose to play.

Donations and Bequests to SICM

SICM is a Revenue Canada-registered Charitable Organisation (89064 1541 RR0001), and donations from members and partners are critical to its work and future.

A general Operating Fund and two special purpose funds support the work of the Institute. Donations are gratefully received to all three funds detailed below, and receipts are provided for Income Tax purposes.

Over its 35 years, SICM has also been blessed to receive many bequests and memorial donations from those sharing its objectives, and those honouring others who did so.

Please help SICM to flourish to benefit many more generations of Church Musicians, and help them to build an ever-brighter future for the Church’s life and song. To discuss donations, bequests and other support opportunities, contact SICM.

    Operating Fund
This general fund handles the general business of the Institute, but also receives special purpose donations not conforming to the goals of the Bursary and Competition Funds, for special projects and more general gifts.

The Dr. Kenneth Inkster Bursary Fund
Founded originally as the "Baskerville Bursary Fund" in the early '70's, the Dr. Kenneth Inkster Bursary Fund supports church musicians needing assistance to attend the Institute.  Named originally in honour of Anne Baskerville of London, Ontario (who had served as "hostess" in the early years of the Institute), in 1975, on the death of founding Institute member Gordon Sloan, the name was changed to “Baskerville Sloan” in recognitiotn of his contribution to the Institute since its founding. In the early '90's, Jennie Bouck, a long-time Member of the Institute who had also served as "hostess" passed away, and in her memory, the Institute received donations also directed toward the Bursary Fund. In 2004 the Fund was renamed in honour of the Institute’s second Director, Dr. Kenneth W. Inkster, on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years as Director of the Institute.

The Dr. Stanley Osborne Organ Competition Fund
Begun in 1976 with the proceeds from “If Such Holy Song”, Dr. Osborne’s commentary volume on the 1971 joint Hymn Book of the Anglican Church of Canada and United Church of Canada, the Dr. Stanley Osborne Organ Competition Fund covers the expenses of the biennial Osborne Organ Competition, and its awards, the Florence and Stanley Osborne Organ Scholarships. The prizes awarded to the first and second place winners in the competition’s final round are treated as Scholarships, and must be directed towards advanced study in organ and/or church music.

“Holy SONG!” is the Summer Institute of Church Music’s ongoing fundraising effort directed at the Osborne Organ Competition - to find out how you can support the competition and raise funds for your own church’s ministries, visit the Holy SONG! page.
