Taylor Sullivan

Taylor Sullivan lives and works in Toronto and is the Director of Music at Cummer Ave United Church, having served there since 1992. For many years, he was also the Director of Music for the Taiwanese United Church which shared the building with Cummer and held services on Sunday afternoons. In addition, Taylor is the Director of the Victoria College Choir at the University of Toronto. This is Taylor’s first year on the Board of Directors of the Summer Institute of Church Music.

About Gordon Adnams

Gordon Adnams is a seasoned church musician, educator, and professional music-maker with over 40 years of experience. He has directed a range of choirs and ensembles, from volunteer groups to auditioned college and community ensembles. He has also been a Board Member of the Summer Institute of Church Music since 2010. Gordon lives in Sherwood Park, Alberta, with his wife, Louise, and enjoys singing in the church choir, playing in a community band and spending time with family. About Christina Labriola

Dr. Christina Labriola combines musical praxis as a choral conductor, alto, and keyboardist with theological scholarship in Christian spirituality and music. She holds a Doctorate in Theology and a Master of Sacred Music from the Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto. She has published and lectured on sacred music, music and Christian spirituality, and theology and the arts. Christina serves as the Director of Music for the Office of Campus Ministry at the University of St. Michael’s College, and as a Roman Catholic church musician in the Toronto area. This is Christina’s first year on the Board of Directors for the Summer Institute of Church Music.

About Chris Dawes

CHRISTOPHER DAWES, performer, conductor and consultant, is a nearly three-decade fixture of the Toronto music scene and frequent collaborator with many of its top institutions, serving since 2017 as Organist and Director of Music to Rosedale Presbyterian Church, and since 2004 as Collaborative Pianist and Coach to the graduate and undergraduate instrumental and choral conducting programs of the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. Since 2018 he has also chaired the Executive of the Southern Ontario Chapter (SOCHS) of the Hymn Society of the US and Canada. Chris’s graduate work in the area of Music Criticism and musical genre has led to occasional blogging and podcasting under the banner “Ideas About Music,” speaking at conferences, and eventually founding the Celtic-crossover band Chroí in 2013. In 2004 he succeeded the late Dr Kenneth Inkster as third Director of the Summer Institute of Church Music, serving in the portfolio “Planning and Mission” since SICM’s federal charitable incorporation in 2017. ideasaboutmusic.ca

About Evelyn Grieger

Dr. Evelyn Grieger has made significant contributions to various post-secondary institutions, leading ensembles and teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. She currently teaches at The King’s University in Edmonton, AB. Her influence extends beyond academia through her role as the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, where she demonstrates her dedication to creating meaningful worship services through her responsibilities of curating and overseeing music for worship, conducting the Adult Choir, and undertaking pastoral duties. Evelyn’s involvement with the Summer Institute of Church Music spans a decade, having been a “student,” a faculty member, and now serving on the board.

Barbara Breckenridge is a retired Music Store Proprietor and Private Piano Teacher. She currently serves as the Minister of Music for Keene United Church. Barbara has been working on the Board of Directors of the Summer Institute of Church Music since 2011.

About Morris Ellington

Morris Ellington (ABRSM, RCM, OCT, BSC in HR and Master of arts in teaching (MAT)), has been involved in music at the church, school, as well as community levels. He has taught music in the Caribbean as well as in Canada for over 25 years from elementary to tertiary levels. He has been the choir director and organist for churches in Jamaica as well as Canada. Currently, he teaches music as well as business in a high school in Canada. Morris has served on the Board of Directors for 5 years.

About Blaine Sack

Here’s what I’ve put together for my bio:

Blaine’s journey as a church organist began at the age of 15. He received his first organ lessons after winning an RCCO competition in 1992. Blaine obtained his Grade 10 in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree, Honours Microbiology, from University of Guelph, both in 1997.

With 30 years of experience as a church musician, he has also been an accompanist, choir director, recitalist, and music director for a professional theatre group.

Blaine currently teaches piano, and is the Director of Music at his home church of Zion Lutheran (ELCIC) in Pembroke, ON, a position he has held since 2017. He has been on the Board of Directors of SICM since 2019.
